Course Overview

A-Levels is the ‘gold standard' qualification, which is based on rigorous, academic syllabus that optimises the abilities of talented students with a wide range of abilities and stretches the full potential of the most able students.

The Cambridge International AS and A-Levels courses are viewed as equivalent to the AS and A-Levels in the UK, and are accepted for entrance to all UK universities.

The A-Levels programme follows a ‘staged' assessment, in contrast to the traditional linear A-Levels where all courses are assessed in a single examination session at the end of the course. Its flexibility enables students to sit for the AS level in one examination and complete the final Cambridge International A-Levels at a subsequent session.

There is also a performance feedback session where students who have completed the AS level will receive valuable feedback on their performance, thus identifying their own strengths and weaknesses that will help them set learning goals for the A2 level.

FAQs

A-Levels, officially known as the GCE Advanced Levels, is a pre-university programme in Malaysia that follows the UK education system. It is equivalent to the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) and prepares students for university by offering in-depth study of several subjects.

In Malaysia, A-Levels is administered by two examination boards: Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and Edexcel. Most colleges, including UCSI College, opt for the Cambridge board.

Completing A-Levels equips students with in-depth knowledge in their selected subjects while enhancing independent and logical thinking skills, ensuring a smoother transition to university.

A-Levels is generally considered challenging due to its analytical and logical nature. The learning materials are also more in-depth compared to other pre-university courses.

The level of difficulty largely depends on the subjects you choose and how well you manage your time. Selecting subjects that align with your interests and strengths are important for succeeding in A-Levels.

While A-Levels is equivalent to Malaysia’s STPM, it differs in several key areas, including programme duration, global recognition, assessments and curriculum.

When selecting your A-Level subjects, consider your interests, strengths and future goals. You are more likely to excel in areas you enjoy and feel confident in.

Take into account your career aspirations and university requirements to ensure your subject choices align with your long-term plans. Aim for a balanced selection that keeps your options open, but be mindful of the workload and difficulty level.

You are always welcome to seek advice from our course counsellors or the Head of Programme to make an informed decision that suits both your current interests and future aspirations.

The choice between Foundation, AUSMAT or A-Levels generally depends on your academic goals and preferred study destination:

  • Foundation: A one-year, flexible pathway to university, ideal for those seeking a shorter programme.
  • AUSMAT: A one-year Australian curriculum programme with a focus on continuous assessment (70%) and final exams (30%). It is well-suited for students aiming to study in Australia or those who prefer a less exam-focused programme.
  • A-Levels: A 1.5-year programme offering in-depth study and global recognition, especially by top universities. A-Levels is ideal for those planning to specialise in specific subjects or pursue higher education abroad.

Consider your study style, career goals and preferred study destinations when making your decision.
